Need care after hours? We’re here for you! Urgent Care now available Thursdays & Fridays from 5PM – 9PM.
At Broadway Veterinary Hospital, we believe in proactive, routine care as the foundation for keeping your pet healthy. Our preventive pet care services help pet owners protect against common diseases, detect issues early, and support long-term wellness for dogs and cats throughout Sacramento.
Whether it’s regular vaccinations, parasite screenings, or dental care, our goal is to reduce the risk of illness and maintain your pet’s health through all stages of life.
Our dedicated team is here to provide urgent, high-quality care for your pets—because they’re family and deserve immediate attention when it matters most!
Many serious health problems in pets can be avoided through consistent preventive care. Vaccines, screenings, and routine checkups help detect early signs of infection, manage risk, and improve your pet’s overall health before more serious treatment is required.
Our pet preventive services include:
Core and lifestyle-based vaccinations (including rabies, feline leukemia, and kennel cough)
Annual bloodwork to monitor for kidney disease, heart disease, or other hidden health issues
Heartworm prevention, as well as protection against fleas, ticks, and other parasites
Skin and coat checks to monitor for irritations or signs of infection on your pet’s skin
Nutritional counseling and behavior reviews to support full-body health and well-being
Preventive care benefits humans, too, by reducing the chance of infection from zoonotic diseases that can pass from animals to people.
Keeping your dogs and cats protected from contagious illnesses is one of the most important parts of responsible ownership. At Broadway Veterinary Hospital, we provide the best vaccines based on age, lifestyle, breed, and environment.
Our veterinarian team recommends:
Regular vaccinations for puppies, kittens, and adult pets
Core vaccines, including rabies, distemper, and parvovirus
Additional protection against Lyme disease, feline leukemia, and kennel cough, where appropriate
Preventive screenings for heartworm, intestinal parasites, and tick-borne illnesses
By staying on schedule with your pet’s vaccines, you not only help prevent illness but also protect others in your community, including other animals and local shelter populations.
Preventive care is just as important for exotic pets as it is for dogs and cats. At Broadway Veterinary Hospital, we help pet owners care for small mammals, reptiles, and birds with species-specific plans designed to maintain good health and reduce the risk of disease or infection.
Though many exotic animals do not require routine vaccinations, they are still vulnerable to parasites, respiratory conditions, and health issues tied to improper habitat setup or nutrition. Our preventive pet care services for exotic species may include:
Wellness exams to detect early signs of illness
Parasite screenings for mites, lice, and intestinal worms
Fungal and bacterial testing, especially for reptiles and birds
Nutritional and habitat evaluations to prevent metabolic disorders
Zoonotic disease monitoring for illnesses transmissible to humans
If you’re caring for ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, lizards, or birds, our veterinarians will guide you through proper prevention strategies tailored to your pet’s species and environment. We serve exotic pet owners across Sacramento with the same dedication we provide to every patient.
We know how much your pets mean to you, and we’re here to help you give them the healthiest life possible. Our Sacramento clinic provides a welcoming environment where every vet visit focuses on prevention, education, and early treatment when needed.
Maintaining a routine wellness schedule makes it easier to track changes, assess risk, and take action before problems worsen. Whether you’re caring for a playful puppy or a senior cat, our preventive approach is designed to support the unique needs of each patient we serve.
My dog Aurora had mouth cancer. I found out and had such little time to schedule her surgery because it was so aggressive. I was referred to Dr. Sam by a friend. I live in Santa Barbara and made the trip up to Sacramento. I am still impressed how well everything went! She had to have almost half of her jaw removed. She is cancer free and looking amazing! Back to her puppy self. First picture is only 2 months after surgery! 2nd and 3rd are the day of. Dr. Sam saved my baby
